17 May 2008
They Met Rupert and Helen met while working together in Meribel in the French Alps for a travel company. Rupert admits that the first attraction was Helen’s company car and her flat! Rupert finally proposed when they were on holiday in Fosters in Australia, for a friend’s wedding. He put the ring box on the table in a café. When Helen accepted, everyone in teh café applauded - and one couple ordered them some champagne!
Wedding Venue The couple chose Venice as Helen used to live there and loved the city. Helped by a planner friend from Venice Events, they booked Palazzo Cavalli for their ceremony and Locanda Cipriani on Torcello Island for their reception. They loved the location - and the great food which was important for chef, Rupert.
The Theme The couple wanted to have a simple and relaxed wedding but at the same time keep a Venetian theme running throughout the big day. There was little styling needed with the beautiful backdrop of Venice but travelling by water taxis added a Venetian touch to the day. The restaurant for the reception organised all of the decorations for them with dinner overlooking the stunning gardens. As the final touch, place settings were decorated with flower themes from the gardens, creating a truly Venetian feel.

What They Wore The bride wore an empire line, full length, halter-neck dress with antique style lace and ivory ribbon detail from Monsoon, with a lace bolero to match. Helen also wore gold sandals from Nine West, a simple tiara and a pearl necklace that belonged to her grandmother, finishing off her outfit.
The groom wore a pin-stripe suit in navy blue, with a pale blue waistcoat, bought from Daks of London. The groom accessorized with family heirlooms of cufflinks and a fob watch as well as an ivory coloured buttonhole.
The Cake Opting for an Italian-style cake, the couple chose a three-tiered fresh fruit flan as their wedding cake, decorated with fresh gerbera flowers,
made by their reception venue, Locanda Cipriani.
The Flowers The bride carried a simple posy of ivory roses and freesia with touches of blue, tied with an ivory coloured ribbon. Buttonholes and corsages were also made up with the same flowers.
A Moment To Remember A memorable moment for Helen was when she was walking through the drizzle in St Mark’s Square with all of the Italians saying how lucky it is when it rains on
your wedding day. The couple also enjoyed being taken around the city in a wood-panelled taxi boat after the ceremony, arranged by one of their friends, as well as being presented with a beautiful, handmade Murano glass bowl.
Honeymoon After staying at the Hotel Canaletto in Venice for their first night as a married couple, they went to Luxor in Egypt for a fantastic honeymoon.
Any Advice Helen advises to, ‘Get a good wedding planner so you don’t get stressed and can enjoy everything.’ And added that if she could do it again: ‘I would have started earlier. We chose 5pm as we
didn’t want everyone hanging around, but it went far too quickly!’
