REAL WEDDING A Touch of Cream 8993 views

Sarah & Damon
26 April 2008

They Met Sarah and Damon first met at a 'cheesy' nightclub in Newcastle-under-Lyme called Maxim’s. It was love at first sight and before too long, Damon had a romantic proposal planned. He proposed to Sarah on Christmas day with a game of Pass the Parcel.

Wedding Venue Damon and Sarah began looking for their venue in early 2004. They searched through wedding magazines as well as the Internet, before finding their perfect venue, Birkhill Castle in Cupar, Fife. It ticked all of their boxes and was very flexible to their wants and needs.

The Theme The couple wanted to keep their wedding simple and elegant with a colour scheme of pale green and cream. With the reception overlooking the River Tay, they decorated the tables with small vases of flowers to match the bouquets as well as gold favour bags. The men were given mini personalised bottles of whisky whilst women were given sparkling wine. As an extra special touch, their two dogs were amongst the wedding guests - making it truly personal - and even attended the ceremony!

What They Wore The bride looked gorgeous in a strapless ivory dress by Bows & Bells in Kirkclady, accessorized with shoes from Next and a tiara from Aliya Rose in Cupar, and veil as well as a pearl necklace from Pretty Things in Perth.

The groom hired a Berlin Brocade Prince Edward jacket with a matching waistcoat and black herringbone trousers from Slaters in Dundee. He also wore a mint ruche and a matching handkerchief with a buttonhole.

The bride also had a matron of honour who wore a floor-length, strapless, pale mint green dress by Mori Lee with matching shoes.

The Cake The couple chose a two-tiered cake with the bottom layer of chocolate fudge cake and the top layer of lemon sponge, made by Oh Crumbs. It was decorated with ivory icing and three iced roses as the topper, along with cascading pearls down the side to match the bride’s jewellery.

The Flowers The bride carried a bouquet of cream roses and cream feathered tulips with bear grass threaded through, with the matron of honour carrying an identical bouquet as well as the reception being decorated with the theme blooms. The groom wore a buttonhole of a cream rose, to match the bouquet.

First Dance After dance lessons, the couple had perfected their routine to Better Together by Jack Johnson for their first dance as husband and wife. The music continued through the evening with Eros Ramazzotti playing.

A Moment To Remember Sarah loved the ceremony most of all because it was so emotional and personal with a highlight being a traditional Scottish hand fasting when a male and female from both sides of the family tie a knot around the couple. Another memorable moment was the Reverend performing a magic trick right at the end of the ceremony!

Honeymoon The newlywed couple spent their first night at Birkhill Castle, after their reception ended at one thirty. They then went to the beautiful island of Mauritius for their perfect honeymoon.

Any Advice? Sarah advises, ‘Decide on a budget early on and stick to it. Remember it is your wedding and you can’t make everybody happy, so just make sure that you two are. It doesn’t have to be expensive to be a fantastic day.’ While Damon suggests staying calm.
