BEAUTY Tips From The Top 13889 views
Travelling abroad to your wedding or honeymoon destination can play havoc with your skin. It takes time for it to adjust to new climates and may become more sensitive, which is the last thing you need right before your big day. So we caught up with beauty expert Sally Penford from the International Dermal Institute to get her essential tips on treating your skin to some serious TLC…
TLC tip 1
Show some respect: ‘When you’re abroad, make sure your skin care regime is on the gentle side. When applying moisturiser use delicate upward strokes to avoid dragging the skin, which will also help stop it from becoming inflamed.’
TLC tip 2
Just add H2O: ‘The low humidity on a plane causes moisture to be sapped from your skin, leaving it dry. Using a silicone-based moisturising cream, such as Issima Happylogy Essence, £51.50, by Guerlain, to help form a barrier against moisture loss, and if possible treat yourself to a hydrating skin treatment the day before you fly.’
TLC tip 3
Blushing bride: ‘Reduce redness by applying a soothing booster that contains red raspberry extract – the vitamin P in raspberries helps strengthen capillary walls and reduce inflammation.’
TLC tip 4
Back off the booze: ‘Avoid products with SD alcohol which can irritate and strip your skin. It’s often found in toners and hair-care products. Treat your skin to a lovely rich moisturiser instead.’
TLC tip 5
Fun in the sun: ‘Daily sun protection is essential every day, but particularly when you’re planning to spend a lot of time sunning yourself on a beach. Always apply a suncream with a minimum of SPF15 – and reapply every hour, especially if you go swimming. Remember: the only safe tan comes in a bottle so if you want to play it safe, fake it instead.’
TLC tip 6
Take your vits: ‘For instant rejuvenation, apply products that have vitamin A, C and E, as well as Panthenol (pro vitamin B5) and essential fatty acids. You’ll find these in power-packed masks or single treatment products, such as Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster. Just one application could make your skin soft, supple and radiating with good health.’
