We all want rid of that lumpy orange peel before squeezing into our honeymoon bikinis and while there’s no miracle cure there are things you can start doing today to help reduce cellulite…

Part one: DIY solutions

Exercise is vital in getting rid of cellulite but there are changes you can make to your diet that can help too.

Eat sensibly: If you’re overweight, cut down on your calorie content and im for low-fat, high-protein and fruit- and vegetable-packed meals.

Fight fluid retention: Cut down on salt and drink plenty of water as areas of cellulite contain high amounts of water-attracting cells that cause bumpy skin.

Increase antioxidants: Get your five a day portions of fruit and veg, which help supply antioxidants that fight free radicals (caused by smoking, sunbathing, pollutants etc), and include protein like fish, chicken, beans and pulses in your diet.

Reduce toxins: Saturated fat, sugar, coffee, alcohol and cigarettes put pressure on your lymph system (which flushes toxins from your body) making it sluggish and creating fibres which bind to the walls of the fat boxes, making them thicker.

Super foods: to improve results aim to include plenty of oily fish, avocado, blueberries, eggs, citrus fruit and low-fat dairy products in your diet as they’re all great cellulite-fighting foods.

Steer clear: avoid anything high in saturated fat – high in calories and free-radical producing; high sugar foods – sugar actually produces more free radicals than fat; high GI carbohydrates (like white bread, rice and baked potatoes), which raise levels of fat storing insulin; coffee and other caffeinated drinks; alcohol, which increases free radicals and may boost fat storage; high salt foods like peanuts, crisps, ready meals, tinned soups etc.
