WEDDING GOSSIP Kate & Owen
| Amanda Hinton - Thu 15 May 2008 | 6804 views - 4 comments |
CELEBRITY SNIPPETS
Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson are loved up again, they certainly have a good history behind them, but this time could it be the real deal? Read more to find out what we think and tell us your verdict.
WHO: Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson
BACKGROUND: Kate and Owen met on the hilarious comedy, ‘You, Me and Dupree’ and after Kate split from her husband, they had a short romance together. Eight months after Owen’s attempted suicide, it seems that they’ve put the past behind them and they’re more in love than ever!
LOVE SIGNS: The ‘Fool's Gold’ actress was spotted looking very happy as she celebrated her 29th birthday with Owen and his parents for lunch. Kate's rep says they are not engaged (the ring she was spotted wearing was for a movie called Bride Wars), but things seem to be going well for the pair!

WEDDING GOSSIP 11 Girl In A White Dress

Shopping frenzy
Our resident bride-to-be, Cheryl, shares the highs and lows of wedding planning in the run-up to her big day. This week she negotiates the aisles to fill up her gift list...
I never realised how much I needed Nigella Lawson’s pretty measuring cups in cream (set of 4) until now. Or a four-hole egg poacher pan thing (although I rather like poached eggs so this could come in handy). It’s only when my beloved and I started compiling our wedding gift list that I realised how empty my life had been without both these kitchen gadgets. OK, not empty exactly but certainly poached eggs had been tricky.
I wasn’t sure if we were even going to have a gift list at first – it seemed a teensy bit presumptuous to me, like demanding your friends buy you nice presents or they can’t come to your party. But then a married friend said, ‘But what will you serve posh dinner party food on?’ Erm, the same IKEA plates I’ve been using for the past five years? She stared at me, open-mouthed. Clearly, I had missed the point.
‘No,’ she said, in a withering oh-lordy way, ‘this is your chance to get a load of good quality stuff that’ll last for years and impress people who come round for dinner.’
Right. ‘Plus,’ she went on, ‘people will want to buy you presents anyway and if you don’t tell them what you want, you’ll end up with 20 coffee makers and spend the first weekend after the wedding exchanging it all.’
So we thought about it for a bit and talked about it for a lot and decided we’d set up a list at a reputable high-street department store because they seemed to have a lot of the nice stuff she’d been talking about.
And then came the wonderful actual shopping part…
On average, wedding guests spend about £72.50 on gifts for the happy couple, so assuming that only half your guests buy you presents, you should be able to work out a fairly realistic total from which to start. And of course you can keep adding as they start buying.
Armed with this knowledge and a clicky scanner thing, we spent the bank holiday wandering around the store, selecting shiny kitchen appliances, fluffy bathroom towels and luxury 100% fine Egyptian cotton percale bed linen - whatever percale is - and a whole heap of lovely posh stuff that'll hopefully last as long as our marriage. I’ve never had so much fun in a department store - although as we left I couldn't help feeling as though I was missing something. Then I realised it was the shopping bags - virtual gift list shopping means no carrier bags to struggle home on the bus.
I think I could get used to this...
Next week: Cheryl sings the praises of bridesmaids everywhere...

Footie-mad fiancé?
Our resident bride-to-be, Cheryl, shares the highs and lows of wedding planning in the run-up to her big day. This week she discovers how to avoid getting a red card from your fiancé while ensuring full attendance on your match-day wedding day...
OMG I’m getting married in 45 days. Count them, people – 45!
I have to keep repeating it because there’s a very small part of me that is quite sure someone’s switched the dates on my calendar and actually it’s only 2007. It’s not that I’m not prepared (the 24 billion wedding spreadsheets I have accumulated will testify to that), it’s just that I can’t believe it’s all going to be over in less than two months.
If you’re getting married this year, you might be feeling the same way. And I’m almost positive there’s not a bride on the planet who can’t tell you how many days it is to her wedding day without stopping for breath.
But how do you go about making sure your wedding doesn’t clash with anything – such as the football season (which seems to go on forever as far as I can tell)? I know a couple who were married on FA Cup Final day and I remember seeing grumpy-looking men huddling shiftily in corners listening to tinny commentaries on little radios while all the women tutted loudly and gave them pointed glares. If you’re getting married on FA Cup Final day this year (17 May in case you didn’t know), how are you planning to keep the men in line?
Luckily once the football season’s over, this summer is free of England games as I’ve been assured that Becks and his team (is it even his team? I was under the impression he and the Beckham brood were now living stateside?) won’t be making an appearance on a giant plasma TV screen near you during this year’s Euro 2008, so unless your hubby-to-be is football crazy and insists on watching the entire tournament from start to finish, most days this summer are safe.
However, if you do find yourself competing with those 11 men in shorts when trying to pick a wedding date during football season, I have spotted a clever way to keep him happy while getting the date you want.
WeddingsFC.com is a brilliant website set up for couples who want to tie the knot in their favourite football ground. As well as contact information for each football club from Aston Villa to Tottenham Hotspur, they have rounded up details of all the suppliers in the local area to help you arrange you big day with a difference – so the beautiful game won’t interfere with your beautiful wedding.

To start, we have a lovely Champney's spa kit as the prize for this week's competition with all the essential ingredients for a pampering session. In our fashion gallery, we take a look at the catwalk trends that came through this year at Birmingham's National Wedding Show and on our Wednesday fashion slot, Margo and Coleen (yes, Wayne's girl) find out they have something in common. Cheryl is getting so excited that she has even been checking out football matches - will she do anything for him? And she has found the perfect manor house for a wedding in the country! For honeymoon ideas, don't miss this Thursday's Taste of the Tropics where Cheryl checks out Mauritius. WEDDING GOSSIP Girl In A White Dress 9

Control yourself!
Our resident bride-to-be, Cheryl, shares the highs and lows of wedding planning in the run-up to her big day. This week she learns that it's OK to trust the professionals...
When it comes to my wedding, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a bit of a control freak.
Actually that’s not strictly true. I’m a full-blown Class A weapons-grade control freak. In fact, I’d win the Olympic Games of control freaks if there was one. Which of course there isn’t (although that would make good telly – they could have Crystal Maze-style contests where teams of bossy people had to navigate tricky obstacles while ordering everyone about in a dictatory headmistress kind of way – just like on The Apprentice).
Not that I do that – I just like things done my way. Particularly when those things are wedding related.
Like most other nearly-brides, I have a number of lovely willing family and friend volunteers kindly offering their services and free time to help lighten the wedding planning load. And they’ve all done an excellent job of whatever task they were assigned to. But it’s the non-family and friend collaborators that I have trouble with.
I know I’m being irrational when I lie in bed at night worrying that on the day the florist will fall inexplicably ill and my mum and I will have to nip round to Tescos and clear out their flower department – or that the photographer will forget to bring a tripod so all our photos come out in blurred wobble-cam – or that the cake maker will confuse the cherry blossom pink food colouring for the pondwater green one. I know these things are unlikely to happen. But I can’t helping thinking that if they just entrusted me with the camera, flower arranging and cake making, I could make sure everything went smoothly.
But clearly I have to give up the control sometimes. My beloved is constantly reassuring me in his calm rational way that everything will be fine; the florist will have a replacement if she’s ill, the photographer will have a spare tripod in his car, and the cake maker isn’t colour blind and makes thousands of non-green cakes every day. Which is reassuring.
Now if someone could just tell me how I can learn to make a wedding cake in less than two months, I can sleep easy again…
