My Blog: Home Sweet Home...
Well, as you all know I made my way back to South Africa, Via Dubai.
Upon arrival in Dubai, it was 47degrees at 3am!! Not much of anything happening, and of course, the flights were SOOO late leaving Heathrow, and I missed a good opportunity to get around Dubai - and shop.
I did however meet the NEW owners of a NEW resort on one of the smaller islands... and have an invitation to stop by anytime I wish. This of course will be done on a 'critical' inspection - as I spoke to Murry about the weddingpathers and honeymoons etc. He is DEAD keen to have me over for two weeks, and see if it gets a stamp of approval. (Guess where I'm going in February?!!)
Landing in Durban, and back to the culture shock thing. Everything is miles apart, and without transport, you are litterally stuck. I have learned the be thankfull to the rail and bus services in UK all over again!!
Back in Cape Town, and I smiled from ear to ear. Although it has been raining for a few days, it is a tidy 17degrees and yes... THIS is winter!!
I went hiking up the Table Mountain again, and although the trip was somewhat spoiled by a gang of Baboons (where's Margo when you need her?) who stole our waterbottles - it was breathtaking as always. Tip- If ever you find yourself in Cape Town, and want to go up the Table Mountain- see if you can find a loca resident who would let you borrow their untility bill. It cuts the cost of the actuall trip up (by cable car) by a third!!
I also went to do a bit of Kyte Surfing... Of course, Blouberg beach is THE COLDEST on the SA coast line - so we headed out to Langebaan.
Girlies, if you want a lovely, tropical-like looking beach... this is the place to go! We ate at the 'Strandlopertjie' and you can have cray-fish, potjie, fresh home made breads, vedgies, various types of meat etc... at a VERY reasonable price. The cottage I stayed in was AWESOME, and it overlooked the lagoon! *sigh* Bliss!!!
From Cape Town, I headed back to Durban. (Where I am currently stationed). Durban is a very busy coastal town. Unlike Cape Town, it is a buzz of business and such. There are only a few places where you will find peace and quiet, as Durban is not really a holiday destination. Of course, if you head out to Margate, it is a completely different story.. Do NOT confuse DURBAN for Kwazulu Natal. DURBAN is IN KZN- and thus, if you are looking for intimate stays.. have a look around the greater KZN. DO NOT choose Pietermaritzburg though... a sleepy town it may seem... but really not a holiday destination!
On my facebook you will see pictures of Gorgi Gorge. I loved the place. It is more a 'local picnic' area, but it is FANTASTICALLY beautiful! Hikes, bicycle trails, paint ball, bootcamps (oh yeh!) picnic and lovely restaurant. It is good for young and old. It also sports the 'Dassie Project' wich is a concervation project for our local furballs.
Due to cicumstance - I will be heading back to UK a LOT sooner than I thought. In fact, by next week I should be back. I did enjoy my short break, and must admit though that I do love my country... just a pity it is in such a political state of upheaval!!
Write soon. Adri
