Hello
In the never ending quest to cut costs H2B and I have decided that we will get a shop bought wedding cake (we were thinking of the marks and spencer one)
Does any one here have any experience of 'supermarket' wedding cakes -
-Taste ? (we are going to buy a few to taste over the next year! YUMMMM)
-Quality?
-Easy to tier etc...
Any advice would be grateful
Lisa

Somebody on here has mentioned that ASDA do a very good cake and reasonably priced. Not sure if they offer fruit cakes all year round though?
Enjoy the tasting though

I was thinking the same thing as I would like a plain white cake and am going to get the Florist to decorate it with roses (not too expensive either).
I tasted Waitrose's Wedding Cakes at a Wedding Fair last year - they had a good selection of sponges / fruit / chocolate and all very yummy.
There's a Waitrose Entertaining magazine (more like a catalogue really) which has the wedding cakes in. I presume you could pick one up in store or on line, but I'm not sure?
M&S also look good, my florist said people had used them before and they looked lovely. I'm sure they would taste good too...it is M&S!
Looking forward to seeing if anyone else has some knowledge we could use on this subject...

We met a photographer last night (who we hired - hooray) and he was telling us that his daughter just bought a load of plain fairy cakes from Tesco's with white icing and put them on a 6 tier cake stand which was then decorated with flowers. Cheap but really effective, I saw the pics and it really did look lovely.
We're lucky though - family friend has offered to make ours. Anyone you might be able to ask...makes a great gift!

Hi girls,
I went to a wedding last year, and they had a asda cake, and then had it decorated really simply, by the florist they were using. It looked really nice, and tasted yummy!
They had three tier's and just a few pink roses on it, I must admit it looked as if it had just come out of a professional cake shop.
Hope this help's.

We bought a medium sized iced fruit cake from Asda to cut at our engagement party. (We actually ordered a photo of us in icing to go on the top aswell).
The cake itself was delicious and if we weren't having a chocolate cake - we wouldn't hesitate to go down the Asda route again.
Good excuse to pig out on cake though... under the heading of 'taste testing!!!!'

I went to a wedding last year and they had a Tesco's wedding cake. As they were good friends they told me after the day that it only cost them £35 for all three tiers!!! On the day I thought it'd been made as wasn't that different to another wedding I'd been to a few months earlier and that cake cost £320 they told me!!!
If you're on a budget I'd definately go for one the supermarket ones and if you decorate it yourself no one will ever know!!

Hi,
My friend had a cake from Marks and Spencer and it tasted lovely - they decorated with flowers at the top and a ribbon round each tier so was really cheap but looked beautiful. No one will notice the difference at the end of the day its all the same ingredients going into them.
My mum is making mine so thankfully saving a bit of money there.
