Wow this is the first wedding site where ive actually had lots of lovely, helpfull replies. (thanx)
Does any1 here watch the wedding channel on sky?? Theres a program called 'three grand weddings' and its slowely becoming my saviour. Ive even posted an add on gumtree asking for anyone who wants to do free entertainment for us. Who knows if i'll get a reply but thought anything is worth an ask.
I'd already found my perfect dress and thankfully cost didnt matter on this as this is my mums contribution but i still looked around and found another beautiful dress that is very similar but £100 cheaper.
We thought we had found a cheap hotel where it worked out that for 50 guests having reception drinks and a 3 course meal then 100 for the evening with a buffet it was only £1500. However we were supposed to pay our deposit on monday and something came up and we didnt even have the money for that so we asked for a weeks extention, then my mum was on the phone monday evening asking if i had heard of wedding insurance....i was saying that i dont need it because of being on a budget but she was saying what if something happened to ur dress or the venue...just something to think about. Anyways the point to this story was that eary hours of tuesday morning there was a fire at the hotel and when we woke up on tuesday it was all over bbc news. It wasnt a major fire though and im sure it prob just means that it will be nicely refurbished but something is telling me its not right. Im not normally a supersticious person but it just feels like a bit of an omen so now we're back to square 1.
I dont have many friends with talents that can help but my fiance has a work friend who lives on a farm and has 10 acres of land....im now wondering if that would be of use??
I know the most important thing is that im marrying the man of my dreams but theres still a little girl inside of me which is hoping for her fairytale wedding.
Plus i might just have to add that im a very scatty person and struggle to even organise my kids bdays never mind a wedding so im very grateful for all of your help xxxxxx

do you have a golfclub close by ( that you know a mamber of, or know of a friend of a friend etc)
i have hired my local golfclub for £100 from 2pm - 12 midnight and if the place is not to much of a mess we get £50 back ...black bags getting supplied at every table
the sit down meal is about £12 per head for 4 courses
Golfclubs and places like this do not do it for profit on the occasion they do it for profit from the bar so may be something to look at.....and most golfclubs these days have beautiful club houses ....

If not try your town hall ........ thats where I got mine think it was £300 with tables/chairs all day for 2 days (to set up the night before)
We then got the pub next door to provide food and a bar. The drinks were pay as you go lol and the food was £21 per head for 3 courses (served by waitors etc)
It didn't need decorating because it was the main hall and had gorgeous coloured walls, chanderliers, big paintings, french windows etc etc etc
[Can't believe its not a dream]

I used my local hall. It was £76 for the evenings hire, which included the kitchen, and an additional room where we had all the food laid out. Our hall wasn't anything special to look at. It did have a bar and a stage though, as well as a really decent sized dancefloor. I have to say though, at night, with all the candles and balloons, and the tables decorated, it looked much nicer than the bare day look!
We were married in a church, and they took a fee of £50. I've since found out we could have been married in another church nearby, with the same woman, which was gorgeous, for only another £50!

My wedding is fairly expnsive, however to save and come in on your budget i would haggle haggle haggle!!
Minimum of 3 quotes for everything and make sure that you are not bullied into special packages!
PLus if you go to a wedding fayre, don't be sucked into the the today only prices. Go away think about anything that you have seen and if you do go for that company, call up and quote the price given as a special offer, lots of times you will still end up with the one off price!

My mum had the Very.co.uk mini-catalogue posted thorough her door this week. They are doing some really cheap wedding dresses/suits on there. I know you have yours, but thought it might be useful for H2B or flowergirls/ bridesmaids etc. They look pretty good.
very
Will put my mind to some more ideas for venues.

Me .... again....
I did a search for function rooms in and around Bournemouth for a cheaper alternative. Turns out that it is a perfectly beautiful part of Britain and lots of the pubs there have lovely facilities. The good thing about them is that they provide catering at a generally cheaper price than hotels, plus they can often feel a bit friendlier and offer you a more personal touch on your wedding day. A good link I found is below
pub-explorer
hope this helps

I definately agree with Sarah about the pub/restaurant idea, in our final venue decisions we narrowed it down to 3 venue's, a local hotel, a school hall where we would have to arrange caterers and a pub/restaurant thats in a village near where we live, the restaurant worked out £3000 cheaper than both of the other venue's and have been so accomodating! At the other venue's we were limited to one meal choice and a vegetarian option, but now we have 4 main course options, and 3 starter and dessert choices! We would never have had that variety at the other venue's we were considering. The staff there have been so helpful, and after going there a couple of times for dinner we are starting to get really chatty with the waiters and manager which i think will make it more relaxed on the day too. Also, we had much more flexibility on numbers. The pub will be open to the public on that night but our reception is in a separate function room, and the place has got so much charachter, it was the perfect venue for us. Definately a good option for saving money!

Hi!
I agree this the ideas of the other girlies.
We're getting married midweek as it is cheaper. I bought my dress from a sample shop to keep within my budget (still can't beleive I got the dress for the price I did!). Bridesmaid's dress & bolero was a bargain from ebay, and we're getting our wedding rings made by a man based in the jewellery quarter in birmingham. O0oh, and I'll be making my own stationary.
You should have a look at this website. It's full of people and their ideas on how to have an amazing but low-budget wedding.
