Not being a fan of hot weather we ditched the beach for a honeymoon where we wouldn't spend the whole time sticky with suncream (yuck!). Our perfect honeymoon was 10 days in a log cabin by a lake in the Maine woods. No electricity in the cabin, no tv, no radio, just us, the lovely owners who cooked for us, our books, the woods, some moose, one weasel and a travel scrabble set. We loved it.

Ditch the beach!

Fraid I'm the opposite - our criteria for our honeymoon was sun, sea and sand - little to do but must have good snorkling

We never get to just relax and do nothing which is why we are on our honeymoon - 2 weeks of bliss for us

Having spent the last 20 years holidaying with the kids in the UK at various Haven and Butlins parks and spent many a romantic weekend here in the UK too we plumped for the long haul to Orlando in Florida for a week then Mexico for a relaxing beach holiday the second week.

I think its important that you both choose whats right for you. I love the UK but I also love to visit other countries and cultures.

I agree, Kirkychic - it's so different for everyone. I love the idea of Seona's electricity-free cabin in the woods but I have to say we've gone for the beach option too for our honeymoon.
It's interesting to see what newly-weds go for though - I know of people who did a two-month trek across South America for charity for their honeymoon!

We've rented a beautiful cottage with garden on the Isle of Man, near Port Erin. We'll be spending our time exploring the island, riding the horse drawn trams and the steam railway, and relaxing in the garden.
