My bro has just completed 22 years in the army, and recently got married, we are having a party for him 4th July, and I have written him this poem! Please can you let me know what you think as I have never done this sort of thing before?

I wore a uniform for 22 years,
No blues but army greens
I had a rank upon my shoulder
And the army world was a place I lived

I was in the chain of command, orders I did give
I’m the one who fired a weapon, and kept you all safe
Mending weapons and tanks, my day was never done.

My Brother is a patriot, a brave and proud man
And the call to serve his Country, not all can understand
Behind the lines he saw the things needed to keep this Country safe
My brother made this sacrifice, but so did Lesley and Stace.

In good times and in bad, you always stand tall
You show your best – the best of all.
As you left home, our hearts went too
Although we were scared, I was so proud of you.

I prayed that you would return,
For your very special day
The day that your wife Lesley, did come your way
Your dream finally come true, Saturday the 6th June
You were soon to be reunited,
And now you start a new journey
As Husband and Wife!

To Iraq you made your last call of serious duty
Now you are here, the man we love so truly

But it is no longer army life for you.
You now start a new journey
Being at home, with Lesley and Stacey.

Times will be different that we are sure
Your last mission, the best one of all,
Here with your family
Back where you belong.

Wave Yes I am so very proud of him, these guys they do a fantastic job, and I am totally behind them all they way.

Obviously his wife is celebrating because hes finally out, but I want to recognise what he has done for all of these years.

I just hope he likes it. Not sure if I am just going to give it him, or read it out at the meal.

Thanks again, love your aviator pic by the way, lovely.

Thanks

A beautiful poem, I am sure your brother will like it and really appreciate your effort. I hope the party will be great and he will have a happy life with his wife.
