We are having the same problem, we are saving 400 a month. We have budgeted on loads of stuff though I'm making my invitations myself and they have cost 42p each and my cake is from M&S only 50!. I'm also doing my own favours at 11p each.
It can be done you just have to look at reducing the price on everything and DIY'ing as much as you can.
I have found it easier to by little bits now like spending 10-20 a month and before you know it you have all your little bits.

My god! You guys are amazing at budgeting!!
H2B and I have been incredibly lucky in that my parents are paying for the costly bits of the wedding and his parents are paying the honeymoon, but we've still gone all out to find bargains!
I completely agree with Seona - look around... and keep looking! Get quote after quote, then choose. It's time consuming, but why stick yourself into debt before you've even begun married life??
And although it's hard not to get wrapped up in it all, just keep remembering it's about your marriage - not about having those stupidly expensive favours, or the 500 cake. Inconsequential, when you consider how amazing your commitment is to each other!
My tips? Well, we knew the image we wanted, rather than the exact details. Some of the (costlier!) things I liked just didn't fit with the look, so we stuck for more chilled-out versions - i.e. instead of big floral arrangements down the aisle, we've gone seasonal with pine cones sprayed lightly with gold, mini roses, ivy and gold balls attached to old sack material, made by my Mum - sounds awful but honestly, they look stunning!
My main bargains so far are: * centre pieces - large gold plates with ivory candles, gold & black baubles surrounding them. The plates were 16 each in one shop - 4 in PRIMARK! Love it! * Favours - 2 wooden roses tied with raffia. Summer 2006, they were priced at 1 per rose. Went back in March this year, they were 10 for a 1. I asked for 150, but through one shop assistant pushing the other out the way and moving everything, the other lady miscounted. I didn't realise until I got back to Leeds, but they'd given me 303! And raffia was only 2 for a huge bag. A pain to tie, but worth it.
* Invites, order of services, menus, placecards. I was quoted 1540. I've made them for over 200 guests and it's cost 60.
* Candle holders - were 13 each. Got them for 1.50 from Country Baskets.
* Evening buffet - listed at 18 per head minimum. We're down to 9 because we asked to change the menu (with Dad's bartering!).
* Florist. One I found at a wedding fayre quoted 1300 for bride, 5 bridesmaids, 2 big arrangements and 15 buttonholes. My local florist (for exactly the same flowers) = 500.
* Our wedding rings, which we designed ourselves. My ring alone was 900 in Beaverbrooks, his was 600. The exact one (with more diamonds) has cost my H2B 189 and I'm paying just short of 300.
The two things we completely blew the budget on were my dress (Caroline Castigliano...) and the live band... you've got to feel naughty somewhere I guess!
