Wave

I know to begin with this is going to sound selfish, but bear with me, it's not...

My MIL2B lives in Spain and has been ill for the last 2 or 3 weeks. It turns out that she has had e-coli, and then that got resistant to antibiotics, so they had to up them. Then she got more pains, and after a lot of doc's appt's found out today that she has gallstones and needs them removing! Sad

This is the bit thats going to sound selfish, but my wedding is in what, 25 days? and they are due over to England on 28th november, and we fly out on the 2nd. I was about to say why couldn't she have got ill sooner, but I actually mean why does she need to get ill at all. And now I have done some investigating and the time off work time after the surgery is 1-2 weeks, which is good if she has them done this week. Not knowing the Spanish system, I hope it will be done this week. So I guess she will be ok to stick to the plan...?

Anyone have any experience with this kinda operation? I assume it'll be the laparoscapy one, but have to wait til later tonight to call to find out.

Too rude.. There are only 6 of us going, why does it have to be one of us that is ill?!? Too rude..

Thanks hun, I feel a bit better now I got it off my chest! Why do these things always happen at times like this?

Last year my Dad got salmonela poisoning. He got an English strain, but was ill half way through a holiday in Lanzarote. These things are sent to try us I think.

Oh well, I'm sure she'll be fine.

At least she's not a nervous flyer, or worried about being on the islands, she used to be an air hostess, and met & married FIL2B in bahama's Smiles Big Grin

My FIL collapsed the day before our wedding and never made it to the wedding. Unfortunately it's just one of those things Sad

I hope your MIL2B makes a rapid recovery and is able to attend

Oh no, thats really horrible. I hope he is better now!

Unfortunatley, the situation has got worse, I'm now in bed with what I think is tonsilitis. I'm hoping its not as bad as I have had before, but this'll be the 3rd time I've had it since July Grr
At least at the moment I don't feel as bad as I did before, so I'm hoping it's not as bad, I had a whole week in bed the last 2 times Bielzebub

But at least I have 2 1/2 weeks til we go, that's plenty of time to get better, even if it means spending my days in bed every day til I fell back to normal. And as far as work goes, tough, I'll take as long off as I need.

I've only just woken up, but my plan for today is spend an hour or so on the laptop/watching tele. and then try to sleep again this afternoon. Surely sleep can solve anything Keith?

Hi

My dad had to have his gallstones removed 5 weeks before our wedding Sad

All operations are serious of course, but his was done by keyhole under a general anaesthetic and he was only in hospital overnight. He was unable to drive for a week or so, but was back to his usual self within about a month (but able to get around long before then).

He was able walk me down the aisle with pride, unfortunately hubby's mum was taken ill just before the big day and wasn't able to attend Sad

Hope this gets sorted and that you feel better soon, tonsillitus is yuk x

Im sure these sorts of dilemmas are sent to test us just before our big day. As if it isnt stressful enough. My fingers are crossed for you that your MIL2B is better in time to make the journey.

Ok, update on this. She was admitted to hospital on wednesday and told to bring an over night bag. They did tests and sent her home Thursday as one of the surgoens onely operates on tuesdays or something odd like that. So now she has to go this tuesday coming. I'm sure she will be fine, I have read some stuff on the internet which suggested what you said Rachel, but it's nice to know from someone who has been there that it doesn't take too long to receover. She only has a week before she then flirs to England. Fingers crossed she'll be back on her feet in no time. FIL2B will just have to do all the lifting of the cases.

As for me, what started out pretty much the same as the last 2 times I've had tonsilitis actually felt better after only 3 days and after a trip to docs she said it was a virus thing rather than a bacterial. Which is good as I do seem to have recovered quicker. Taken a few days off work and although I'm not back to normal, but I don't think it'll be too long with lots of rest and tlc.

Thanks for asking. I'll update you on Tuesday once we've heard how it went. Fingers are firmly crossed until then!

Eeeeek stitches out in 10 days! That's the day after she gets here, and the day before we go. Oh well, I suppose the local hospital can do that kinda thing just as well as theirs. Fingers crossed. As for the resting etc, she'll have lots of time for the 2 weeks afterwards as she likes to read and not do anything too energetic on holidays.
It's going to be a tight schedule, but I'm sure it'll be fine.

Thanks for the advice Smiles
