We haven't been TTC that long (5 months) but when I went to my Docs for a general check-up she told me that even if I came back in 12-18 months and still hadn't gotten pregnant then they probably wouldn't do anything
I thought that was really unnecessary and she was really arsey about it as well, I hate arsey, smug GPs. If we haven't had our BFP by the end of this year I'm going back there and DEMANDING tests, they can chuff-off with their 18-24 month waiting malarky. In all my 27 years of living (and 12 years of paying taxes) I haven't once used NHS resources - despite the occasional GP visit of course - so if I want tests I'll damn well ask for them.
Don't let them brush you off with 'give it another few months and see what happens' - my best friend had to go a bit postal with her GP to get them to do anything about her suspected PCOS, she is now booked in for scans at the hospital in May

hang on you are all getting carryed a way bit here you have to be activley trying for 2 years before theyll start looking into the caurse of why you are getting pregnant me and my hubby started years ago and in july we had been trying about 2 years infact its more than that and in the december we was only just starting to get looked at with tests! ect? remember if you have been on the pill it can take up to 2 years for everything to be back to normally and in working order so i wouldent stress to much over what your gp had said? like this year we been trying 3 years and no look but even if the treatment im on now dont work when hes hom i cant even go for ivf without paying as of my age remember this isnt the doctors fault its the goverment guidlines they ar sticking to for treatment and for conciving its 2 years without treatment as thats adviseray for anything!xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I was really really sick for the 1st three months of the pregnancy so knowning that I think I avoid being iin the early stages of pregnancy on my wedding day.
But then not everyone suffers with the sickness!!! And I think with the whole excitement of the day it would take a pretty bad day of sickness to bring you down, so if you can't wait, then I say go for it!!!
Plus the wedding dress shops are so clever with alternations that if you did need your dress to be taken out, it would be easy to do so.
Good luck to those of you that are trying

Mrs Dodd, Someone said to me just before I got pregnant that you're never going to have enough money for a baby so just go ahead with it now anyway! We're trying to look at it like we did for the wedding - there are so many things that people say you 'need' but you can do without, I think ebay will be our saviour! Having said that I do realise that bringing up children is an expensive business and I understand your H wanting to have a better job. My H is kind of in the same boat but we are hoping to tide over for a few years and see what happens.
The other thing is that we also thought it would take 1-2 years of TTC but first try and that was it! Quite a surprise really, it's strange I didn't get pregnant before by mistake! So you never know, it could take no time at all. Sorry for long post, have been meaning to say this for ages!

thanks Orla
i do apprecaite what you mean, but i don't want him to feel uncomfortable about trying when we are literally just getting by now. He has a loan we have been paying for since we got a house from his spending days before he met me finishing Oct, and he is really unhappy in his job and we know we will never afford it, but be nice if we were a bit more stable and no o/draft and clear c/cards before we start!
We also renegocaite mortgage July so that will be another factor.
fingers crossed summer/late summer we will be in the swing of TTC
Mrs Amiz - i completely agree that is what we pay our taxes for for the doctors to help us when we need it and i would be the same after 12months

I know what you mean, it's all money money money these days... We have just had our mortgage revised, still not sure what the damage is going to be, should find out today. Yay for summer time TTC, have fun!
Mrs Aimz - I was the same with the national health, I NEVER go to the doctor and have been paying out for social service (NHS) for 10 years now in Spain. This is the first time I have needed anything and I have found the service to be appalling - I won't give you details or you'll be shocked! I am 20 weeks on Sunday and STILL don't have the date for my 20 week scan, which is really important. I will have to ring up and fight again with silly admin people who don't do their job to get an appointment.... Good luck with your TTC!

The NHS (and by the sound of it the Spanish equivalent) really are appalling. I think I said before but I've gone privately now to have the baby. When I had problems early on in the pregnancy, I couldn't get hold of my midwife as she never answered my calls, the hospital weren't interested in seeing me and I felt totally alone. They also got my blood test results mixed up, cancelled numerous appointments and generally left me with no faith in the NHS. I was quite scared I was going to end up in labour shoved on a hospital corridor somewhere! It makes me angry when I pay my taxes.
It's sad that the world does revolve around money . We're moving to a bigger house this Summer and I'm going to go part-time at work. We spent last weekend going through our finances working out things like mortgages, nursery fees etc. It's scary where money disappears to. Mrs Dodd - I hope something comes up for hubby soon.

Thanks girls, its good to know I'm not being completely impatient/unreasonable re: the 12-month wait
I just think its utterly ridiculous to have to wait so long before they will do such (relatively) simple procedures like hormone tests, semen analysis etc. All those additional months of possible heartbreak, stress and the like, it just seems really unnecessary
Obviously it can take that long to happen naturally, I have a few close friends who have all taken nearly a full year to get their BFP, but after 12 months I will be asking (aherm, demanding) for initial tests, for reassurance if nothing else that we are both OK.
If our GP won't give in to my polite requests (!) then we'll look into paying for private care.
I'm hardly 'over the hill' at 27, but neither me or Hubby (29) are getting any younger and I've been off the pill for over 2 years. I don't think its unreasonable to want answers after a year
Anyway - we're onto cycle #6 this month (byeee AF!) so fingers crossed
