Most of you may know that I've been thinking about turning part of my wedding dress into something I could use again. Well plans are now in motion!

I went to see a very lovely designer today to see about changing the train from my wedding dress into something wearable. She runs a wedding shop in Kingston-upon-Thames. Two people I know have had parts of their wedding outfits made there and rated her highly.

I took my train along for her to look at and she has suggested turning it into a box jacket with 3 quarter length sleeves. The kind that are fitted at the top then swing out to the waist.

I've left the fabric with her so she can work out some designs and chat to the dressmaker about it. There are 4 pieces of embroidery on the dress that she wants to figure out how to use. I've put a picture on the end of this, it's one of the smaller pieces. The larger ones aren't on a seam.

Once she has it figured out I go back to look at the sketches, get a price, and decide whether to go ahead. I'm so excited! It would be amazing to have a piece of my dress to wear again.

It's great because I get to keep my dress and use some of it, thanks to the detachable train! Although I am seriously considering having the bodice taken off my dress to wear separately. But right now the thought of someone taking scissors to my entire dress freaks me out too much. Eeeeek

I did seriously think about selling the dress. But when I saw the trouble people seem to have on Ebay getting their dresses bought I decided reuse was better than resell.

Hey you could ask the dressmaker for the cut offs and bits that don't make it into the jacket, and you could still do the box frame with dress background idea!

The shop is called I Do, and the address is Ram Passage
High Street, KT1 1HH. Telephone 020 89749838.

It's run by a woman called Jenny and she is absolutely lovely. The shop is covered in pictures and thank you cards from her customers, I always think that's a good sign.
